Supply Chain Managers are very important as they develop and monitor a company’s supply chain strategy. Their most important goal is to improve productivity and efficiency and reduce costs while securing high quality material for their company.

Keeping track of logistics and updating the company’s inventory is not an easy task. Supply Chain Manager needs to analyze operational performance and resolve issues that may occur.

A good Supply Chain Manager needs to have math skills combined with strong analytical and statistical capabilities to understand supply and demand issues. The ability to use data to track orders and shipments, sales trends, demand and any weaknesses and inefficiencies is necessary. Also, soft skills to negotiate and build relationships with suppliers, customers and team members and attention to detail to understand the business and the environment in which it operates are most wanted.

Education on supply chain management is vital to the success of any organization and to the survival and growth of the profession. There have been dramatic impacts upon and changes within the field of purchasing/supply management. The continuous changing nature of customer / supplier relationships and alliances, the growth and use of the on-line purchase to facilitate e-business, focusing on strategic goals related to cost/value are the challenges of a Supply Chain Manager.
